Jaxon's Hoho Class

It was just starting to become noon by the time Jaxon was done with her shower that she took after her first class of the day. She still couldn’t believe it. She passed the hidden exam in the Hakuda class the first time around. And with flying colors! Though for the life of her, she couldn’t remember if her father told her about it or not. Then again, a lot of time has passed since he had been in the Shinigami Academy. Things would have changed anyways. “Yes! I did it! Woo!” She cheered to herself as she was making her way to her next class of the day. “I wonder if Dad had to go through something like that or if the classes depended on the teacher. Perhaps I should go back to class anyways and train some more. Would hate to get rusty from not practicing.” She said to herself as she nodded some. She made up her mind. She was going to go back to her Hakuda class whenever she has free time or when she just feels like it. She wanted to be as best as she could get in all of the combat areas that make a Shinigami a true Shinigami in the eyes of the Gotei 13. Her hair was pulled back into a long braid that went down the middle of her back. It was a dark red color since it was still wet and she smelled like candy apples due to her shampoo and soap. As she was making her way to her class room, she would glance around and see the other students. To her left, there was a group of male Shinigami students practically flexing their muscles and showing off what they just learned to each other as well as to get some attention from any of the female Shinigami students that so happened to be close by. There were also some Shinigami couples just sitting together under the shade of a few trees or eating lunch. She just smiled at the couples. She wished she was a part of a couple of times. Being loved and loving the other, never truly being alone. Oh how she wished and wanted it. Though she’s shy and blushes easily when it comes to males. This was the only thing that was a problem for her when it came to relationships. Jaxon shook her head some as she lightly sighed to herself as she continued to walk on.

She looks down at the paper that had the schedule of her classes and the times. She blinked as she noticed that she had only these two classes for today. She would have her Zanjutsu and Kido classes tomorrow. At the same times she had her classes today. “Huh. Thought I had all my classes in one day. Oh well. No skin off my nose. I can just go explore my dorm for the rest of today then.” She said to herself as she shrugs her shoulders. She puts the paper away as she got to the door that would lead her into the room of her Hoho class. She took a good look around and noticed that the room had no chairs or desks of any kind. The room was completely open and free of any clutter or furniture. “Uh. Perhaps I’m in the wrong room.” She said as she sweatdropped. “No, you’re in the right room. I just got done moving everything around. Hoho is all about speed. Furniture would just get in the way, ya know?” A male voice said from behind her as a tall young Shinigami male walked in. He had spiked up orange hair and had darkly tanned skin. “Oh yeah. You’re right. My mistake, I’m new here so I’m sorry if I ask or sound dumb.” She said as she smiled nervously. The male Shinigami smiled at her and patted the top of her head, as he was the tallest Shinigami she has ever seen. “It’s alright squirt. I am your sensei after all and it’s my job to teach you all I know, ya know?” He said as he let out a chuckle. Jaxon blinked a bit at what he said. She thought she misheard him when he called her a squirt. She smiled a bit anyways as this sensei seemed to be more laid back and friendly then her Hakuda sensei. “Now, go on and move over to that wall, ya know?” He ordered her before he went to the middle of the room and waited for the other students to arrive. It didn’t take too long for the others to arrive. All of them were lined up against the wall and were looking at their sensei.

“Hello everyone! Welcome to your Hoho class. Today I want you all to run as fast as you could from the wall you’re against to the wall on the other side of the room. You will then run back to your original position. I will time ya, ya know? We’ll go one by one. The quickest one would get something that would help them learn faster on how to master their Hoho skills. Possibly enough to help you learn how to do Shunko, ya know?” He spoke to his students as he looked at them all. He pulled out a stopwatch and waited for the first one in line to go and start the class off. Jaxon was excited now. She has heard from her father on what Shunko was and how those who mastered it learned it. She has even seen her father do it on occasions. She was in the middle of the line, so she had time to watch and study how fast the other students in her class was moving. From the response she was getting from the sensei, it didn’t seem as if there were any major speed differences among them. Also seemed like no on yet has surprised him. She watched as one by one, the other students in her class each take their turn.

Finally, it was her turn to show her speed. She waited for him to nod in her direction. Getting into a position of sorts that would give her a push of sorts in her run. As he nodded to her, she instantly started to move. She moved her legs as fast as she could. Her body was kept as low to the ground as she could get to help make her more aerodynamic. This gave her an advantage of sorts already, since it made her go by faster. Once she neared the other wall, she jumped and kicked off the wall. She turned her body during the jump and used her momentum to push off the wall, almost like a bullet. She continued to run, reaching her original position within the line. She was panting and lightly sweating, as she moved as fast as she could. As she catches her breath, the student beside her went their turn and so on and so on. Once all of the students had made a timed run to the wall and back, the sensei clapped his hands. “Good job. You all did very well today. You were all faster then I originally thought, but your speed needs to improve more so if you want to master Hoho and then Shunko, ya know?” He held up the clipboard that had all of their timed speeds down as well as how fast they moved.

Jaxon smiled as she heard what the sensei said about their times. She looked at the clipboard he held up and wondered on how fast she went. She was also curious on her time. She hoped that she was the one who was the fastest. According to her Hakuda teacher, she mastered the skill usage of Hakuda so she was half way there to being able to do Shunko. If she won the advantage then, it would be sooner then later that she would be able to learn on how to perform Shunko. The sensei lowered the clipboard and started to call out the student’s name. The student called would step forward. The sensei would then tell the student on how fast they moved plus on their time. The student would then move back in line. One by one, this went on. Jaxon couldn’t help but notice that the speeds the others ran at were around in the same range. Their times would be in the same range as well. Finally it was her turn to find out her time and speed. “Onne, Jaxon.” Her sensei called out. Jaxon smiled as she stepped forward. She was nervous to hear what he had to say about her. She tried to get a feel on if she won or not from the way his facial reactions. It didn’t help her really, as he always smiled. “So far you are in the lead, ya know? Your speed is 40 miles per hour. Your time is 2 minutes and 5 seconds.” He told her as he looked at his clipboard then at her. Jaxon smiled widely at the news. She then bowed to him a bit before she got back in line.

As time went on, she got more and more nervous of what the others may have. She would tense up as he called them up. After she would hear their times and what not, she would relax. When the sensei reached the final person, she sighed in relief. It was over. Now they’ll know who was the fastest and what this advantage was that he spoke of earlier. “Ms. Jaxon, step up please.” The sensei called out as he put the clipboard away. Jaxon blinked in surprise as she heard him call her name. She then smiled and nodded as she stepped out. “Yes, sensei?” She asked. He smiled wider and patted the top of her head. “Congrats squirt. You were the fastest time and speed. You get the advantage.” He told her before he called out the name of one of the male students. It seemed as if he decided in the end to allow a male and female to get the advantage. As the sensei congratulated the male Shinigami as well, she started to wonder even more on what this advantage was. The sensei then turned to the rest of the students. “You all did well, ya know? Keep up the good work, as I will have this for every class. The advantage will be different though for each day, ya know? Don’t worry, they won’t win it again.” He told them as he smiled at them, so as to give them hope.

He then turned to Jaxon and the male Shinigami. “You two stay here after I dismiss class. I will tell you then in secret what your advantage is, ya know?” He whispered to them. They both nodded to him in a silent response. He nodded before he turned his attention back to the other students. “Time for drills, this will help your speed increase over time.” He said before he went and placed two cones on the floor. The cones were 20 meters apart. “I want you all to sprint from one cone to the next. Then slowly jog back to the first cone. Do this five times in a row. No stopping once so ever.” He told them as he did an example for them before stepping to the side. He was going to watch them. As before, one by one, the students did this drill. A few of the students stopped, which he punished them by making them do it even more times. As Jaxon waited for her turn, she sweatdropped as she watched a particular male Shinigami student keep stopping then being punished to do it over and over again. “Kinda reminds me of High School.” She whispered lowly to herself. “You’d think he’ll understand to not stop after the first three times of doing it wrong and being punished for it. Ah well.” She whispered some more to herself. Right when she was done whispering to herself, the male Shinigami was finally done. And soon after, it was her turn to do the drill. After she has done the drill, then it continued on and on to those who were lined up behind her. After all the students went through the drill, the sensei then spoke up again. “Good job. Now time for another drill. Jog for 10 meters before sprinting. Do this five times. Then do it running backwards. Do that five times. Finally, sidestep the whole way. Do that five times as well.” He called out to them. The whole group of students groaned out loud as they heard what he wanted them to do. Jaxon sighed and shook her head some. Jaxon knew what this drill was for. It was to help enhance their acceleration. It had nothing to do with speed, at least not off the mark. In any case, she and the other students did the drill. This time, no one messed up. “Okay! Take a five minute break and get some water, ya know? I have more drills for us to go through with before class ends.” The sensei said as he smiled at them. The students just shook their heads and mumbled and groaned as they took their rest.

Jaxon mainly squatted down some as she catches her breath. “Woo. He’s really working us over with these drills. Oh well. I can handle it. Hopefully he comes up with something more challenging. Perhaps something more fun to do.” She said to herself. She then stood up and walked around; stretching her legs and body some. She glanced up to a clock. She wanted to make sure that she had enough time to get some water. She saw that she had no more then two minutes left. “Good, enough time.” She said. She rushed to where she could find water and filled up a small cup with water to the brim. She drank her water. As she turned around, she saw what the sensei was doing. It seemed as if he was setting stuff up for the next drill. “Uh oh. More cones. Great.” She said before she sipped on her water. She sighs and shrugs. “Oh well.” She said before she threw away the cup. The five minute break was about to be over.

As the last few seconds passed, the break for the students was now officially over. The students weren’t very excited to do more drills. It had to be done and they knew it. They all stood in a line once more. Waiting for what the sensei was about to tell them this time. There were now five cones out on the ground. The cones were in 30 meter intervals. “Okay. This is how you do this drill. Sprint 30 meters to the second cone. Jog 30 meters to the third cone. Sprint 30 meters to the fourth cone. Finally, jog 30 meters to the final cone. Walk back to the start and repeat this five times.” He told them as he pointed to each cone. The students all sighed and groaned at the directions. “Aw. Come on. You only got two more drills to do then we’re done for the day. You guys can do it. Now get going.” He said as he let out a chuckle. The students looked at each other for a moment before they look at him. They then shrug before they start doing the drill. They wanted to get this drill done and over with. The faster they did it, the faster they can go back to their dorms and rest.

Once it was all done, the students were panting and sweating. Jaxon shook her head some as she rubbed her temples. “Ugh.” She just said as she was getting tired and annoyed at this. She wanted to sleep the rest of the day away in her dorm. The sensei just smiled and nodded as he looked at them. “Good, good. You guys are getting faster. See? The drills are doing their magic, ya know?” He told them. Jaxon blinked as the info sank in. He was right. She did indeed was moving faster. Granted it was slowly happening, but it was happening all the same. “Oh my. Maybe these drills aren’t all bad.” She joked and chuckled softly. The sensei took away three of the five cones. He moved the second cone about 100 meters away from the first. He turns back to his students. “Now then. I want you to gradually accelerate to reach your top speed at the 60 meter mark. For the final 40 meters, go out on a full force sprint.” He said as he pointed to the 60 meter mark. Jaxon blinked some. “Huh. Doesn’t sound so bad.” She told herself. “Course, he hasn’t said on how many times we have to do this. Hopefully not five times. I’m starting to get sick of that number.” She continued as she waited to hear how many times they must do this.

“You will just do this drill twice, as it takes longer to do then the others.” He told them. He then laughed as all of the students made noises that meant they were extremely to hear that. The students didn’t wait to hear him tell them to go on and do it. They were happy to do this drill. The drill was done quickly, since all of the students were now moving faster then before. Unfortunately, once they were all done with it. Their bodies started to feel as if they were made out of lead instead of bones. The hype they had gave them the adrenaline to do the work, but not it was gone. The sensei knew this would happen and wanted it to happen. “Now for the final drill.” He called out to them as he got out more cones and placed them on the ground. All in all, there were eight cones. The cones were set up in a straight line and were about a meter apart from each other. “For this drill, you merely move around these cones as if you were a snake. You weave through the cones. Turn around and weave back. Do this three times then you can go.” He said as he crossed his arms over his chest. All of the students did so and they started to leave. The only ones who were now left in the room were Jaxon, the sensei, and the male Shinigami student. The sensei turned to them and told them what their advantage was. The students smiled and nodded, obviously happy with what they have been told. The sensei then waved to them before he left. The male Shinigami student followed right after him, which left Jaxon alone in the room. Jaxon smiled and chuckled as she was so happy. “Yay! Time to go to my dorm and rest! Finally!” She said as she jumped a bit. She then walked out of the room and headed off to her dorm.
